Bivacco Roberti, Mountain shelter in Presanella Group, Trentino, Italy.
Bivacco Roberti is a shelter situated at 2205 meters elevation in the upper Nardis Valley, positioned beneath the Nardis Glacier in the Presanella mountain range. The stone structure provides hikers and climbers with a basic refuge point in this high alpine environment.
The hut was built in 1885 as an early project of the Società degli Alpinisti Tridentini, a local alpine organization. It sustained interior damage during World War I but persisted through the decades as a shelter for mountain travelers.
The shelter carries the name of Count Vittorio Roberti, an alpine climber who went missing in the mountains in 1945. Visitors here connect with the story of one of the region's early mountaineers whose life became intertwined with this landscape.
From Ponte Verde in Val Genova at 905 meters, trail 210 leads hikers up to the shelter in roughly two and a half hours. The route climbs steeply and demands good fitness, particularly through the rocky sections near the summit.
The remains of Count Vittorio Roberti were discovered in August 2005, sixty years after his disappearance. This discovery finally solved a mystery that had lingered over the region for generations.
