Cave di Prun

Cave di Prun is a quarry in Sant'Anna d'Alfaedo with long underground corridors extending roughly two kilometers through the eastern side of Mount Robiago. The passages display traditional stone extraction techniques and various underground chambers that developed over many centuries.

Stone extraction began in the early 13th century, with the mined material later transported to the San Zeno monastery for processing. Monks there used the stone for various building projects across the region.

The stonecutters who worked here shaped the local landscape through hand-driven extraction methods, creating extensive underground passages that show how people manually mined rock. These corridors reveal the skill and effort that went into traditional stone harvesting from the mountain.

Visitors can book guided tours of the quarry through the La Malga association, especially during weekend periods throughout the year. It is wise to gather information in advance to plan the best time to visit.

The underground chambers serve multiple purposes today, including storage of materials and specialized areas for mushroom cultivation. This unexpected reuse shows how a historic site can be brought back to life in new ways.
