Forte Monte Tesoro, Military fort in Sant'Anna d'Alfaedo, Italy.
Forte Monte Tesoro is a military fort located in Sant'Anna d'Alfaedo at approximately 917 meters in elevation. The structure comprises three levels, underground tunnels, and six rotating armored domes equipped with 149mm cannons.
The fort was constructed between 1906 and 1911 as part of the Verona defense network against potential Austro-Hungarian invasions from the north. The municipality acquired it in 2013 and began restoration efforts starting in 2016.
The name references a treasure tied to local legend associated with this site. The structure reflects the military engineering of its era, showing how designers used the hillside landscape to create a formidable stronghold.
The fort is reachable via a road from Negrar di Valpolicella and sits at a significant elevation. Guided tours are available by appointment during special events and exhibitions.
Inside the structure is a 66-meter staircase carved directly into the hillside. This passage connects the powder magazines through a lengthy tunnel to the main fort.
