San Niccolò dei Greci, Catholic church in Lecce, Italy.

San Niccolò dei Greci is a late-Baroque church in Lecce's historic centre, rebuilt in 1765 to designs by Francesco Palma, Lazzaro Marsione, Lazzaro Lombardo and Vincenzo Carrozzao. Its simple tripartite facade is divided by paired pilasters and a trabeation, with a single portal under a Baroque cartouche lunette. Inside, a single vaulted hall of three bays ends in one apse, separated from the altar by a stone iconostasis from Lecce with three doorways and painted panels.

The parish of San Niccolò dei Greci was housed until 1575 in a chapel on the site of the present Church of the Gesù in Piazzetta Castromediano; when the area passed to the Jesuits, the Greek colony moved to the church of San Giovanni del Malato, reconsecrated to San Nicola. The present building, probably on a medieval three-nave church of Byzantine foundation, was rebuilt in 1765 to designs by Francesco Palma, Lazzaro Marsione, Lazzaro Lombardo and Vincenzo Carrozzao, taking its late Baroque form with the altar to the east and the entrance to the west.

The church follows the Byzantine Rite and serves an Italo-Albanian Greek Catholic congregation. Visitors can observe religious practices that differ from the Western traditions dominant elsewhere in the city.

The church stands in Lecce's historic centre; the altar faces east and the entrance west, following Byzantine custom, so the facade is met on its western side. Liturgy is celebrated in ancient Greek or Albanian, with Greek prevailing on major feasts. Visitors should keep in mind that this is an active parish of the Eparchy of Lungro.

The church keeps a painting of Christ Dead and one of Saint Spyridon on his throne dated 1775; the latter was signed by papàs Demetrio Bogdano (Dhimitër Bogdani, 1753–1841), a priest-painter from Corfu who served as parish priest here until 1841 and repainted several panels of the iconostasis.
