Castle of Sanluri, Medieval castle in Sanluri, Italy.
The Castle of Sanluri is a medieval fortress with four towers at its corners connected by high walls that create a central courtyard. The building contains several exhibition rooms spread across the levels of the complex.
The castle was built in the late 1100s and marked the border between two rival regions at that time. A major battle there in the early 1400s changed who controlled the area.
The museum inside displays objects from the 1800s, including wax figures and military uniforms arranged throughout the rooms. These collections tell the story of the period when the region came under Italian rule.
The main entrance leads into a courtyard from which stairs climb up to the exhibition rooms in the upper section. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since there are steps and uneven surfaces throughout the grounds.
This castle is the only one among nearly 90 medieval fortresses in Sardinia that still serves as a private residence while also being open to visitors. This dual function sets it apart among the fortified structures on the island.
