Castello di Senarega, Medieval castle in Valbrevenna, Italy

Castello di Senarega is a castle positioned at the highest point of Valbrevenna village with a prominent tower and geometric building lines. The complex includes underground passages that connect directly to the local church.

The castle was built between the 13th and 15th centuries and originally belonged to the Senarega family. In 1685 the Fieschi counts of Lavagna took control and held it for many years afterward.

The place served as a residence and administrative center for different families over the centuries, showing traces of the people who lived here. Visitors can observe how the rooms were organized and what roles they played in daily life.

The castle sits high in the village and is reached on foot through steps and steep paths that wind through the settlement. Before visiting, check local conditions as accessibility can vary depending on weather and seasonal maintenance work.

Inside the castle lies a chamber with ceiling rings, wall attachments, and a trapdoor in the floor connected to a mechanical system below. These features reveal how carefully the building's defensive structures were designed.
