Castello di Senarega, Medieval castle in Valbrevenna, Italy
The castle stands at the highest point of the village, featuring a tower and geometric architecture with underground passages to the local church.
Originally constructed between the 13th and 15th centuries, the castle passed from the Senarega family to the Fieschi counts of Lavagna in 1685.
The structure served multiple functions through centuries, from a defensive watchtower to an administrative center under the Fieschi family administration.
Located at coordinates 44.556461, 9.119597, the castle underwent restoration work funded by a 1.2 million euro European grant in 2014.
The castle contains a torture chamber with ceiling rings, wall attachments, and a trapdoor in the floor that connected to a mechanical system.
