Castle of Torriglia

Castle of Torriglia is a medieval fortification rising on a hilltop with multiple connected structures. The building displays an irregular rectangular layout with a round bastion on its eastern side and a square keep at the northern end.

The castle was built around 1000 and first appeared in official records through a 1153 papal document. Over subsequent centuries it changed hands multiple times, serving as a defensive stronghold during the region's turbulent medieval period.

This stronghold served as a seat of power for local noble families across centuries. Visitors can trace how different ownership periods shaped the building and left their marks on its structure.

The ruins are open to visitors and rise approximately 19 meters high, giving a sense of the original scale. Access to the site requires sturdy footwear and a visit should be planned during fair weather conditions.

The lower tower section features large identical hammered stones fitted with remarkable precision. Above this rises a layer of baked bricks topped with irregularly cut stones that cap the upper structure.
