Zumelle Castle, Medieval fortress in Borgo Valbelluna, Italy

Zumelle Castle stands atop a hill near the Terche river, featuring a 36-meter-high square tower with five levels connected by wooden stairs.

The initial fortification dates to 46-47 AD when Romans established a military outpost to control the Via Claudia Augusta Altinate trade route.

The castle maintains furnished medieval chambers, including a banquet hall, kitchen area, scriptorium, and the Church of San Lorenzo within its walls.

Guided tours lasting one hour allow visitors to explore multiple rooms, including the tower house, apothecary shop, and military exhibition areas.

The castle's name originates from twins born to Gothic leader Genseric and his lady-in-waiting Eudosia during the 6th century occupation.
