Riserva naturale Vincheto di Cellarda

Riserva naturale Vincheto di Cellarda is a state nature reserve situated along the Piave River, encompassing wetland areas with ponds, lakes, and diverse plant and animal habitats. The terrain combines naturally formed water bodies with managed zones that support numerous species adapted to moist environments.

The area came under state management in the late 1800s and was transformed into a production site for willow cultivation serving local craft traditions. This shift brought specialized facilities and established practices that continue to define the landscape today.

The site reflects a heritage of willow growing for basket making, a practice that shaped both the landscape and the work of local communities. Walking through the reserve, you see this tradition woven into how the land is organized today.

The site features walking paths and observation points where visitors can watch birds, fish, and other wildlife, with informational signs explaining the local ecosystem. Spring and fall offer the best conditions for seeing animals active in and around the water.

The reserve contains roughly 120 willow varieties, many cultivated since the early 1900s and bred specifically for weaving applications. This collection represents a living archive of plant strains that are scarce elsewhere.
