Castello di Alboino

The Castello di Alboino sits on the Colle delle Capre hill with a prominent clock tower and defensive walls that overlook Piazza Maggiore. The structure features thick stone walls and partly exposed foundations, offering views across the surrounding town.

Archaeological finds show that the central keep dates from the 11th century. During Venetian rule in the 15th century, the structure underwent major rebuilding that shaped its current form.

The castle walls display frescoes painted by Lorenzo Luzzo in 1518 that show the artistic traditions of the northern Italian Renaissance. These wall paintings shape how the place looks today and tell us about local craftsmanship from that era.

You climb to the castle via Salita Nicolò Ramponi street, which leads up from Piazza Maggiore. Guided tours through the local tourism office are the best way to explore the interior spaces.

The Torre del Campanon tower stands 35 meters high and served as a communication point with other fortresses during medieval times. Important messages could be quickly sent across distances using smoke signals.
