Feltre Cathedral, Renaissance Catholic cathedral in Feltre, Italy
The Cathedral of San Pietro Apostolo is a Renaissance religious center with a striking stone facade and prominent bell tower that dominates above the town square. The interior divides into several chapels and sections furnished with paintings and religious artworks from different centuries.
The building arose after an earlier structure was destroyed and construction took place between 1514 and 1585. The project represented a desire to establish a new and lasting place following military events that had erased the previous one.
The structure embodies Renaissance ideals with its balanced proportions and careful geometry, shaping how the central square reads to visitors. Today it serves as a focal point where residents gather and where religious practices remain integrated into the rhythm of daily life.
The interior is open to visitors who can explore both the chapels and the archaeological area beneath the building. The underground remains provide insight into older layers of the town and can be visited as part of an organized route.
Next to the main building stands a separate 15th-century baptistry with its own architectural character. It houses a baptismal font from 1399 that bears witness to hundreds of baptism ceremonies performed there across the centuries.
