Sant'Agata al Collegio

Sant'Agata al Collegio is a baroque church in Caltanissetta featuring a dramatic staircase that branches into two balustrade-lined flights approaching its front. The square interior nave is flanked by four side chapels decorated with refined plasterwork.

Construction began in 1588 under the patronage of Luisa Moncada and her son Francesco II, reaching completion four decades later in 1628. The interior's ornamental plasterwork was added afterward, continuing the building's embellishment well into the 17th century.

The interior chapels showcase ornate plasterwork that reflects the wealth and devotion of those who funded them over centuries. Visitors can sense how the decoration served to inspire prayer and demonstrate the importance of this place in the community's spiritual life.
