Monumental Cemetery of Turin

The cemetery encompasses 600,000 square meters of burial grounds, featuring numerous sections with elaborate tombs, sculptures, and architectural monuments throughout the space.

The construction began in 1827 under Mayor Tancredi Falletti of Barolo at the Half Moons area, where French troops had previously destroyed a park in 1706.

The burial site contains tombs of notable Italian figures, including writers Edmondo De Amicis and Silvio Pellico, alongside works by sculptors Bistolfi and Canonica.

Visitors can access the cemetery at Piazzale Falletti di Barolo 133/b from Tuesday to Sunday, with seasonal hours varying between summer and winter months.

Emanuela Borgatta Dunnett conducts specialized tours focusing on women's histories and maintains detailed records of the cemetery's inhabitants since 2011.
