Parco Colletta, Urban park in Turin, Italy
Parco Colletta is a public park in Turin, located where the Po and Dora Riparia rivers meet. It has paths for walking and cycling, along with volleyball courts, five-a-side football fields, and a cycling track that loops around the grounds.
The land was used for farming before it was turned into a public park. A farmhouse built in 1681 still stands on the grounds, a reminder of the centuries when crops were grown where people now walk and play.
The park has community gardens tended by local residents who grow vegetables and share the plots with neighbors. These gardens are easy to spot and give the space a lived-in, everyday feel that goes beyond a simple green area.
The park is easy to reach on foot or by bike and has different areas suited to different activities, from sport to relaxed walking. Visiting on a weekday morning tends to be quieter and gives you more room to move around.
The children's play area inside the park is built from black locust wood, using real branches and roots as part of the structure. The result looks more like a piece of forest than a standard playground, which makes it stand out from typical park equipment.
