Cubulteria, Archaeological site in Dragoni and Alvignano, Italy.
Cubulteria is an archaeological site in the municipalities of Dragoni and Alvignano in Caserta province. The ruins spread across a strategic area with stone foundations, ancient pathways, and structures from Roman times, while the Church of Santa Maria still stands on the site today.
The settlement switched sides during Rome's wars with Carthage and allied against Rome. This led to its destruction by Roman general Quintus Fabius Maximus.
The coins and inscriptions found here show how people traded and lived together in this settlement. They reveal daily life in this community caught between Samnite and Roman worlds.
The site is best explored on foot, offering views of the surrounding countryside. Its location between the two municipalities and proximity to the Volturno River make it accessible, though a visit requires some preparation beforehand.
A Roman bridge called Ponte Anicio crosses the site and once connected the ancient city to the Campanian plain. It shows how important this location was for trade and movement in the region.
