Monte Acero

Monte Acero is a mountain in the Matese range that rises to 736 meters above sea level. Ancient stone walls run along the peaks and give the landscape its distinctive form.

The mountain was fortified by the Samnites in the 6th century BC with stone walls that served as a lookout point. This ancient structure shows how strategically important this site was for the region's early inhabitants.

A cast-iron statue of Christ the Redeemer stands on the eastern peak and was placed there in the early 1900s. It has become a visual marker that visitors immediately notice when approaching the summit.

Walking trails lead to the summit with multiple routes suited to different fitness levels and hiking experience. Weather can change quickly at this elevation, so bring proper footwear and weather protection.

The Samnites built their walls from uncut stone without mortar, which means these structures have stood for 2500 years. This building method shows remarkable ancient engineering skill.
