Forte Santa Tecla

Forte Santa Tecla is a coastal fortress in Genoa with a triangular shape and reinforced corner bastions. The structure spans three levels and features multiple gun emplacements strategically positioned to defend the harbor.

The Republic of Genoa commissioned this fortress in 1747 to reinforce coastal defenses against naval threats. Its construction reflected the city's need to protect its maritime interests and maintain control over its harbor.

The fort now houses a military museum that documents how coastal defenses shaped Genoa's security strategy over centuries. Visitors can explore exhibits showing the role of fortified structures in protecting the city and its trade routes.

The fort sits on elevated ground above the harbor and can be reached by walking paths from the old town. Comfortable shoes and physical preparation are helpful, as access involves climbing stairs and navigating uneven terrain.

The fortress retains 21 original gun positions distributed throughout its structure for complete defensive coverage. This extensive arsenal allowed the installation to repel attacks from both sea and land approaches.
