Forte Teglia

Forte Teglia stands on a promontory overlooking the port of Pianosa Island, featuring multi-level structures with blind arch crowning and crenellated tops.

Mother Teresa of Calcutta placed a statue of the Madonna at the fort's parapet during her visit to the penal institution in 1986.

The structure contains distinctive biforate windows with central columns supporting pointed arches, topped by wider semicircular arches along its eastern and western facades.
