Spiaggia di Cavoli, Sandy beach in Marina di Campo, Italy
Spiaggia di Cavoli is a sandy beach on the island of Elba, near Marina di Campo, flanked by granite rock formations on both sides. Those rocks divide the bay into two sections that differ slightly in character, with one side more sheltered and the other more open to the sea.
The bay offered natural shelter to passing vessels for centuries, making it a practical stopping point along the coast of Elba. Over time the surrounding area grew from a small fishing settlement into the tourist destination it is today.
The name Cavoli simply means "cabbages" in Italian, pointing to the fields that once grew behind the shore. Today the spot is a meeting point where locals and visitors share the same stretch of sand without much separation between them.
The beach has rental services for sun loungers, umbrellas, and water gear, along with bars and restaurants right on the shore. Visitors who want to explore the granite rocks should wear shoes with a good grip, as the surfaces can be uneven.
The waters near the granite rocks are home to patches of seagrass that shelter small fish and other sea life, visible to anyone snorkeling just off the shore. This makes the rocky edges of the bay a rewarding spot for a closer look below the surface.
