Forte Tombion, Military fort in Valbrenta, Italy
Forte Tombion is a military fort in the Brenta Valley near Valbrenta. It consists of two casemated gun batteries arranged perpendicular to the road and surrounded by protective embankments and a moat.
Built in 1884, this fort replaced centuries-old defensive structures that had guarded the valley. It became a key position for Italian military protection along the Brenta Valley.
The fort shows how Italian military planners thought about defending mountain valleys in the 1800s. Its location and design reflect the defensive strategies of that era.
This is a private location and visits must be arranged in advance. Contact the management at the on-site restaurant to request access to the fort.
During World War II, local resistance fighters damaged the railway tunnel next to the fort through a planned sabotage action. This operation disrupted military supply routes in the valley.
