The Vellone-Sacro Monte funicular connects the Vellone river valley to the village and sanctuary through a 371-meter track with a passing loop.
Originally inaugurated in May 1909, the funicular operated until 1953, then reopened in 2000, faced another closure in 2003, and resumed service in 2005.
The funicular provides transportation to the Sacro Monte di Varese, featuring a collection of religious chapels and a sanctuary visited by pilgrims.
Operating Thursday through Sunday from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, the funicular runs every 10 minutes and accommodates 55 passengers per journey.
With a maximum incline of 56.5%, the funicular climbs 168 meters in altitude during its three-minute journey between the valley and mountain stations.
