Montesanto Funicular, Funicular transport in Spanish Quarter, Italy

The Montesanto Funicular connects Naples' historic center with the Vomero district through three stations along an 825-meter track system.

Constructed in 1891, the funicular initially operated on steam power before transitioning to an electrical system in 1901 for improved efficiency.

The funicular serves as a primary connection between the Pignasecca market area and cultural landmarks like Castel Sant'Elmo and Certosa di San Martino.

Trains depart every 10 minutes from 7:00 to 22:00, completing the journey between terminals in approximately five minutes with a capacity of 300 passengers.

The middle section of the route offers views across Naples' center from the Corso Vittorio Emanuele station position.
