The Santa Maria di Montesanto follows a Latin cross plan with a single nave and eight side chapels beneath a central dome.
The construction started under architect Pietro De Marino and Dionisio Lazzari completed the dome in 1680 for the Carmelite friars from Sicily.
The church houses paintings by Paolo De Matteis from 1693, including Saint Michael Archangel and the Miracle of Saint Anthony.
