Galleria nazionale della Puglia

The Galleria Nazionale della Puglia houses paintings and drawings spanning from the 16th to the early 20th century within a Renaissance palace located in Bitonto. The building itself, Palazzo Sylos-Calo, provides the architectural setting for the collection with its period rooms and structures.

The museum was established in 2009 following the donation of an extensive art collection by siblings Girolamo and Rosaria Devanna. This gift created a national gallery intended to preserve and showcase the region's artistic treasures for the long term.

The collection reflects the artistic journey of painters from this region, showing how local creativity developed alongside broader European movements. Works by artists from Naples and Puglia occupy a central place, revealing connections between this area and major artistic centers.

A visit works well in the morning when it is less crowded, and no advance booking is typically required. The building is accessible for wheelchair users throughout, with the collection arranged across different levels.
