Fountain, Renaissance fountain in Trastevere, Rome, Italy
The fountain features a circular vasque on a pedestal that pours water into a lower basin, establishing a design pattern for many subsequent Roman fountains.
The fountain, constructed in 1499, replaced an earlier Roman water source and underwent modifications when water pressure limitations required removing its top basin.
The fountain stands as a central meeting point in Trastevere, where residents gather near the water source throughout different times of the day.
The fountain provides fresh drinking water to the public through its continuous flow system, which prevents water stagnation in the pipes.
The structure remains one of the earliest surviving Renaissance fountains in Rome, marking the return of large-scale water infrastructure projects to the city.
