Grotta del Vento

Grotta del Vento is a multi-level cave system in the Apuan Alps featuring underground rivers and natural waterfalls. The passages showcase limestone formations created over thousands of years by water and geological processes.

The cave was first scientifically explored in 1878 when a University of Bologna professor documented the system. This early investigation helped establish the site as an important location for geological study.

Three different guided routes offer varying lengths from one to three hours depending on fitness and interest. The cave maintains a constant cool temperature year-round, so bringing a jacket is a good idea.

Strong air currents flow continuously through the entrance due to natural pressure differences between the cave and outside air. This visible air movement phenomenon gave the cave its distinctive name meaning Wind Cave.
