Herbétet, Mountain summit in Aosta Valley, Italy
Herbétet is a peak in the Gran Paradiso massif located in the Aosta Valley, standing at 3,778 meters above sea level. The mountain features multiple glaciers spread across different aspects of its slopes.
The first documented ascent of this peak was made in 1873 when mountaineer L. Barale reached the summit via the North-Northeast ridge. This early climb helped establish the route across this ridge for future mountaineers.
The mountain stands within Gran Paradiso National Park, where strict conservation rules protect local flora and fauna while allowing regulated climbing activities.
Climbers can begin their ascent from either Cogne or Valsavarenche village, with different routes suited to various skill levels. A mountain shelter provides accommodation and rest stops for mountaineers during their climb.
The mountain holds position 14 among 438 peaks in the Gran Paradiso Massif and contains four separate glaciers: Herbétet, Gran Neyron, Montandayné, and Tsasset.
