Museo dell'Opera del Duomo
Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, Sacred art museum next to Cathedral of Santo Stefano, Prato, Italy
The museum displays significant religious artworks across seven exhibition rooms, including Renaissance masterpieces, archaeological findings, and a Romanesque cloister from 1165.
Founded in 1967 within the Bishop's Palace, the museum expanded its collection through the years to preserve artworks from the Cathedral and diocesan territory.
The Renaissance Room contains works by Sandro Botticelli and Filippo Lippi, while the Donatello Room features the restored pulpit created by Donatello and Michelozzo.
The museum entrance stands at the base of the cathedral bell tower, offering visitors access to both the museum collections and Filippo Lippi's works in the cathedral.
The Volte section contains funeral frescoes beneath the cathedral's transept, completed between 1320 and 1326, with works by Girolamo Ristori and Tommaso di Piero Trombetto.
