Museo paleontologico di Montevarchi

The museum contains over 2,600 fossils from the Upper Valdarno region, displaying specimens from the Late Pliocene and Early Pleistocene periods.

Founded in 1819 through the initiative of Marie Louise of Austria, the museum received its first classification of artifacts from Georges Cuvier in the early years.

The institution organizes educational programs, workshops, and guided tours in Italian and English to share paleontological knowledge with students and visitors.

Located in a former Franciscan monastery, the museum offers wheelchair access and can accommodate groups of up to 25 people for guided visits.

The entrance hall features a complete skull of Elephas meridionalis with tusks, discovered in the 19th century in the local area.
