The Palazzo del Podestà stands on Piazza Varchi with a three-level structure featuring stone and brick construction methods from different architectural periods.
Built in the 14th century as the seat of the chief magistrate, the palace underwent substantial modifications in 1866 following the annexation of the Grand Duchy to Italy.
The palace walls display decorated medallions in artificial stone created by sculptor Giovanni Bianchi and graffiti decorations by painter Alfredo Fini from 1932.
The ground floor contains a courtyard and public reception area, while the first floor houses the Great Hall for municipal council meetings.
Surviving coats of arms painted or embedded in the walls document the period from 1536 to 1733, representing different administrative periods.
