Monte Rosso, Mountain summit in Piedmont and Aosta Valley, Italy
Monte Rosso rises to 2,374 meters above sea level, situated at the intersection of three mountain ridges between Valle Cervo and Valle del Lys.
The southeastern slopes of Monte Rosso became part of the Special Nature Reserve of the Sacro Monte di Oropa in 2005, enhancing protection of local ecosystems.
The mountain name originates from Mount Rous in patois Fontainemorain language, referencing the characteristic tawny color of its rocky surface.
Visitors can reach the summit through path D23 from Oropa Sport cable car station, passing by Lago del Rosso before ascending the southwestern face.
Since 1948, Monte Rosso hosts the Periplo del Rosso, a classical technique ski mountaineering competition traversing its surrounding terrain.
