Entrepôts de coton, Historical warehouses in Old Port, Italy
The Cotton Warehouses of Genoa span a large area with four floors and multiple electrical loading systems for cargo handling. The structure consists of two main buildings connected by metal bridges, forming a single integrated port complex.
Construction of the northern building began in December 1889 and finished in 1901, marking an era of modernization for Genoa's port. These warehouses were central to the city's growing trade activity and technological advancement at that time.
The transformed warehouses now contain a multiplex cinema, congress center, and various galleries with shops and restaurants. These spaces reflect how the port district has evolved into a destination for both leisure and commerce.
Visitors can access the Children's City educational space on the upper floor, where instructors organize activities for young participants throughout the day. The complex offers multiple facilities, so it helps to take time exploring the areas that interest you most.
Three metal bridges connect the northern and southern buildings, with thirteen electrical cranes still visible as reminders of their industrial past. These preserved cranes are rare examples of the lifting equipment that once powered daily port operations.
