Malga Lunga, Mountain resistance museum in Gandino, Italy
Malga Lunga is a museum located at 1235 meters on Monte di Sovere that explores local resistance movements during World War II. The building was originally a mountain shelter and now contains exhibits about the struggles and events that took place in this alpine region.
The building served as headquarters for the 53rd Garibaldi Brigade in November 1944 before a three-hour battle resulted in arrests and executions. This battle remained a significant moment in the history of local resistance.
The site tells the story of the Bergamo resistance movement against fascism, which unfolded in this remote mountain area and brought together people from across the region. The displayed objects and documents show how daily life looked for those who resisted and what dangers they faced each day.
The museum is accessible year-round but can be difficult to reach during heavy snowfall. Multiple hiking trails lead up from the towns of Sovere, Gandino, and Endine, so you can choose different routes depending on your fitness level.
The building retains its original design as a mountain shelter with a long portico that once provided protection for livestock. This architectural feature still shows today how important such structures were in the Alps and how they were repurposed over time.
