Museo Bardini, museum in Florence
The Museo Bardini is housed in a palazzo in the Oltrarno district and displays over 3600 artworks spanning paintings, sculptures, and ceramics. The building itself features medieval and Renaissance elements integrated into its architectural design.
Art dealer Stefano Bardini transformed a complex of buildings in 1880, including a deconsecrated church, to create his palazzo. This conversion shaped the structure that now holds his collection.
The collection reflects artistic traditions from different periods that shaped Florence. The displayed objects show the tastes and interests of a major collector generation.
The museum provides wheelchair accessibility throughout all exhibition spaces, making it easy to navigate. The layout allows for a natural flow through the different collection sections.
The building incorporates reused medieval and Renaissance stones from various sources and features painted coffered ceilings throughout. These ceilings span different historical periods, giving the interior its distinctive character.
