Museo Retico, Archaeological museum in Sanzeno, Italy.
Museo Retico displays finds from early human settlement through Roman times along a spiral-shaped educational pathway called Pozzo del Tempo, which rises from ground level. The collection features tools from prehistoric hunters and gatherers, objects from early farmers, and metal goods from the copper age.
The museum opened in 2003 and preserves objects from the earliest human presence through successive cultures in the Val di Non region. It documents the progression from hunter-gatherer groups, through early agricultural societies, to metalworking communities that existed before Roman arrival.
The exhibitions showcase everyday items, religious objects, and artistic works created by the Rhaetian people who lived in this region before Roman rule. You can see how they crafted tools, made pottery, and expressed their beliefs through art.
The venue provides space for meetings and workshops, rotating exhibitions, and an archaeological library for those interested in deeper research. The spiral pathway is easy to follow and allows visitors to move at their own pace through the display levels.
The building was designed by architect Sergio Giovanazzi using deconstructivist style, making the structure itself a distinctive part of the experience. From here, a nature trail leads to the nearby San Romedio Sanctuary, perched on a rocky ridge.
