Palazzo Campanella, Regional council headquarters in Reggio Calabria, Italy.
Palazzo Campanella is the seat of the Regional Council of Calabria, spanning eight floors with around 36,000 square meters (387,500 sq ft) of space. Metal walkways connect different sections of the building, creating a unified interior circulation system.
Built on the site of former Italian Army barracks, the palace opened in March 2000 as the new seat of the Regional Council. This transformation turned a military space into the administrative center of the region.
The building is named after Tommaso Campanella, a Calabrian philosopher chosen through public consultation to represent the region's identity. This choice reflects how the place connects to local intellectual heritage and regional pride.
The palace is located at Via Quartiere Militare 28 and provides access to conference rooms, an auditorium, a public library, and underground parking. Allow yourself time to explore the different areas at a comfortable pace, as the building is quite large.
From 2009 to 2013, the palace temporarily housed the Riace Bronzes during an extensive restoration project. These ancient bronze statues, among the most important artworks from antiquity, were kept within its walls during this critical conservation period.
