Palazzo Silvestri-Rivaldi, Renaissance palace near Roman Forum, Italy
Palazzo Silvestri-Rivaldi is a Renaissance palace located near the Roman Forum in Rome. The building features multiple entrances accessible from Via del Tempio della Pace and Via del Colosseo, with a connecting garden area as part of its layout.
Construction of the palace began in 1547 under architect Antonio da Sangallo for Eurialo Silvestri, the chamberlain of Pope Paolo III. The building was completed in 1586, representing decades of Renaissance construction work in the city center.
The palace contains frescoes by Perin Del Vaga decorating its interior walls and vaults with Renaissance artistry. These painted scenes remain part of the building's character and reflect the artistic tastes of its original inhabitants.
The palace is currently closed to visitors due to ongoing restoration work. You can view the exterior from the surrounding streets, but expect to see construction scaffolding around the building during its renovation period.
The palace may eventually house the Torlonia Collection, one of the largest private collections of Greek-Roman classical sculptures. This potential transformation would turn the building into a major venue for displaying ancient artworks.
