Palazzo Chigi of Ariccia, Baroque palace and Roman museum in Ariccia, Italy

Palazzo Chigi is a five-story Baroque palace with corner towers, a simple facade with railings, and rooms furnished with period pieces and wall decorations. Inside, it holds art collections spanning different eras and styles, displayed across multiple decorated chambers.

A cardinal acquired the medieval fortress in 1661 and hired a prominent architect to redesign it into a grand palace during the 1660s. This transformation made it a showcase of noble architecture from that period.

The rooms display paintings and decorative arts from the 1600s that reflect the tastes of Roman nobility and the Church. The artwork and furnishings show how patrons shaped their living spaces with beauty and refinement.

The palace is accessible for visitors with mobility needs and can be explored room by room. Plan enough time to walk through the different levels and observe the decorative details throughout.

The building still preserves its original gilt-leather wall coverings from when it was built. It also houses preparatory drawings and sketches by an Italian artist for mosaics that ended up in a major Roman basilica.
