Parco del Mercatello, Urban park in eastern Salerno, Italy

Parco del Mercatello is an urban green space in eastern Salerno that spans across a substantial area and brings together different zones. The space includes a natural area, a Mediterranean garden with local plants, an orchard section, and open lawns designed for recreation and movement.

The park was formally opened in 1998 by the President of the Italian Republic, marking the creation of a major green space for the city. Its establishment created an important recreational area that shaped urban development in eastern Salerno.

The park hosts cultural performances, mainly for the young population of eastern Salerno. Its Mediterranean garden is framed by long majolica-clad porticoes covered with climbing plants, and the orchard section survives from the area's former agricultural use.

The park lies in the Mercatello district on Salerno's eastern outskirts and is reached easily from the Mercatello station of the Salerno metropolitan railway service. The grounds cover ten hectares, so allow time to cross between the naturalistic area along the Mercatello stream, the Mediterranean garden and the orchard.

The park opened temporarily in 1994 and was inaugurated in 1998 by President Oscar Luigi Scalfaro. Its ten hectares make it one of Italy's largest equipped urban parks, and it was redeveloped in 2023 to a design by the group led by S.B.ARCH. Bargone Associati.
