The Palazzo Pinto stands in central Salerno, housing the Provincial Art Gallery on its first floor with numerous exhibition spaces and historical chambers.
The palace belonged to the Norman-origin Pinto family from 1756 until 1916, when Gennaro Pinto, the last descendant, bequeathed it to Salerno Province.
The Provincial Art Gallery inside Palazzo Pinto displays collections of regional artworks, reflecting the artistic heritage of the Salerno area through centuries.
The palace underwent substantial restoration work after the 1980 earthquake, with additional structural reinforcements implemented since 2000 to maintain the building.
The structure incorporates Roman remains and exhibits architectural elements from different periods, including a Catalan-style lowered arch on the ground floor.
