The Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo stands in Piazza del Monte with its medieval architecture featuring a grand meeting hall and decorated facades.
Construction began in 1280 to house the Captain of the People, a foreign official responsible for maintaining order and justice in the municipality.
The palace's main hall contains fifteenth-century frescoes depicting Madonna and child, along with heraldic insignias from former town Captains.
The building now operates as Hotel Posta, continuing a hospitality tradition that started in 1515 with the Osteria del Cappello Rosso inn.
Between 1920 and 1929, renovations restored the medieval features while maintaining the neorenaissance style of the southern façade.
