Pieve of San Leolino

The Pieve di San Leolino stands on a hilltop outside Panzano in Chianti, featuring characteristic stone masonry and architectural elements from the 12th century.

First mentioned in 982 as San Leolino in Flacciano in documents from the Abbey of Passignano, the church received patronage from Santa Maria Nuova Hospital in 1508.

The church houses significant artworks including a 1421 polyptych by Mariotto di Nardo and glazed terracotta tabernacles created by Giovanni della Robbia.

The church remains active within the Diocese of Fiesole and includes a baptistry, serving the local Catholic community through regular religious services.

Archaeological fragments discovered inside the church structure indicate the presence of an earlier religious building predating the documented 982 reference.
