Porte San Miniato, Medieval city gate in Oltrarno district, Florence, Italy
The gate features two stone coats of arms displaying Florence symbols, the Lily and the Cross, on its exterior walls.
Built in 1320, Porte San Miniato stands without a tower and originally included a protected gallery for garrison soldiers above the entrance.
The gate marks the start of Via San Miniato, leading to San Miniato al Monte church and Piazzale Michelangelo observation point.
The structure received complete restoration work in 1996, with additional repairs to its inner section completed in 2001.
Internal staircases remain visible within the gate structure, indicating the former path to the defensive gallery and city walls.
