Giardino delle rose, Rose garden with city panorama in Florence, Italy.
Giardino delle rose is a rose garden in Florence laid out on terraced levels along a hillside, housing more than 400 varieties of roses and many other plant species. The terraces offer views of the city and surrounding countryside from different vantage points.
The garden was designed in 1865 by architect Giuseppe Poggi when Florence became the capital of unified Italy. This founding period shaped its design as a green space for the growing city.
Bronze sculptures by Belgian artist Jean-Michel Folon are scattered throughout the site, creating a conversation between art and nature. They encourage visitors to discover the artworks while walking through the garden.
The garden is located at Viale Giuseppe Poggi and is open daily to visitors. During warmer months the visiting hours are longer, so arriving early in the morning offers a quieter experience.
The garden includes a Japanese oasis area designed by Yasuo Kitayama and donated by Kyoto, Florence's sister city, along with the Kodai-Ji temple. This section blends Japanese garden traditions with the Italian setting.
