Pizzo San Michele

Pizzo San Michele is a 1,567 meter mountain peak in Monti Picentini Regional Park with expansive views of the Salerno plains, Mount Vesuvius, the Partenio and Matese ranges, and the Gulf of Naples. The terrain features steep slopes, rocky passages, and green meadows that shift color with the seasons.

The mountain served as a navigation and mapping reference for Campania throughout the centuries, marking territorial boundaries in the region. This role established it as a significant landmark in local historical geography.

Local pilgrims visit the mountaintop sanctuary dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel, treating it as a place of spiritual devotion and personal reflection throughout the year.

Various hiking trails allow visitors of different abilities to reach the summit, ranging from easy to challenging routes. It is advisable to start early in the day and come prepared for changing weather conditions at higher elevations.

In summer months, visitors can stay overnight in mountain bivouacs at over 1,500 meters elevation to witness sunrise. This nocturnal experience provides a completely different view of the surrounding landscapes and peaks.
