Parco regionale Diecimare, Regional nature reserve in Mercato San Severino, Italy.
The Parco regionale Diecimare covers 444 hectares of protected territory featuring Mediterranean scrubland, oak forests, and diverse geological formations across Monte Caruso and surrounding hills.
Established in 1980 through regional law number 45 of May 29th, this protected area was created to preserve the natural heritage of volcanic and limestone landscapes in the Salerno province.
The park serves as a living laboratory for environmental education, hosting school groups and researchers while preserving traditional Mediterranean flora including holm oak, myrtle, and strawberry trees.
Visitors can reach the park by car via the Salerno-Naples highway, exiting at Cava de' Tirreni, or by public transport from local train stations with connecting bus services.
The reserve is home to the swallowtail butterfly, a colorful species that serves as an indicator of healthy ecosystems and attracts nature photographers throughout the warmer months.
