Riserva naturale Camaldoli

The reserve encompasses 1,110 hectares of protected mountainous terrain within the Foreste Casentinesi National Park, featuring diverse forest ecosystems and geological formations.

In 1012, Saint Romuald received a land donation of 160 hectares, establishing the initial foundation for what would later become the Camaldoli Nature Reserve in 1977.

The reserve reflects centuries of forest management by Camaldolese monks, who transformed mixed woodlands into silver fir plantations through traditional cultivation methods.

Access to the reserve is available through marked trails from the A1 highway, with entry points at Florence South when arriving from the north and Arezzo from the south.

The reserve contains a 500-year-old chestnut tree and provides protection for numerous species including wolves, wildcats, deer, and various birds of prey.
