Fontana del Guercio Natural Reserve, Regional nature reserve in Lombardy, Italy.
The Fontana del Guercio Natural Reserve is a protected regional area in Lombardy that spans across several municipalities. The territory contains 14 natural springs, including the Testa del Nan source which feeds the Roggia Borromeo watercourse.
The springs in this area have been known since Celtic times and have shaped local water systems for thousands of years. They served as reliable water sources for agriculture and human settlements throughout many centuries.
In 1974, local residents formed the 'Amis de la funtana' group to clean and protect the area, later developing into the Carugo forest fire prevention team.
Access is available through the municipalities of Carugo and Brenna with a network of paths for different activities. The trails work well for walking, cycling, and horseback riding while exploring the spring landscape.
The salamander population here represents the southernmost habitat of this species in Lombardy and reproduces in the natural spring waters. This specialized fauna makes the area scientifically significant and worth protecting.
