Riserva naturale Valle del Fiume Argentino

The Riserva naturale Valle del Fiume Argentino spans 3,980 hectares within the Pollino National Park, featuring dense forests and mountain landscapes near Orsomarso.

The Italian government established this protected area in 1987 to preserve the natural heritage and indigenous wildlife of the Calabria region.

Local communities maintain traditional practices while the reserve supports scientific research on native species including the Apennine Wolf and Black Woodpecker.

Visitors can access hiking trails, observe wildlife, and participate in river activities such as canoeing and rafting on the Lao River.

The reserve contains the Tavolara Lake and Ficara Waterfall, along with the Madonna di Lourdes Cave featuring natural stalactite formations.
