Riserva naturale guidata Gole di San Venanzio

The Gole di San Venanzio reserve spans 1,107 hectares of protected land, featuring steep rocky reliefs in the east and gentler slopes in the west.

Established by regional law in 1998, this reserve preserves ancient Neolithic rock paintings and connects the Maiella National Park with Sirente-Velino Regional Park.

The reserve includes the San Venanzio hermitage, a religious architectural structure positioned along the Aterno River at 501 meters above sea level.

Access to the hermitage requires advance reservations for groups of minimum 5 people, with an entry fee of 2 euros per person.

The canyon's formation results from millions of years of erosion by the Aterno River, creating natural terraces and diverse ecological environments.
